Do you know the tips to keep your landscape green? Just travel to Montenegro, a land of sea and mountains.

Could it be that this tiny and adorable land with the total area of 13,812 km² (5,333 square miles) has five National parks? Once more, you will see that there is much more to this country than its gorgeous Adriatic coastline.

When in Montenegro, visit Nacionalni Park Skadarsko jezero (Skadar Lake National Park). Head inland with us and immerse yourself in this fascinating little country’s wild side. On this tour, we take a scenic route to Rijeka Crnojevića (Crnojević river), which is a chance for you to see a hidden spots of Montenegrin nature.

The Skadar Lake National Park

From Bar, you’ll admire not only the sea and the mountainous region, but also this big lake, one of Montenegro’s spectacular destinations. Large wetland areas are perfect habitats for its 270 species of birds and historic towns and local food attracts many tourists. We’ll get to know more about Montenegrin past as we arrive in the fishing village called Crnojević River. But before we arrive there, we’ll make a stop at Macalov Brijeg (Macal hill) to appreciate the views of the lake and the mountains. And, we might as well hyrdate our bodies with some homemade juice as we sit in a quite and charming cafe.

Crnojevića River

As we continue our journey on the panoramic road, we’ll find ourselves in this modest yet charming little place set around an arched limestone bridge- Crnojević River. The footbridge was built of stone by Prince Danilo Petrović in 1853, it is 43 meters long and 1.7 meters wide. A simple structured house was also built beside the bridge, on the left bank of the river, called “Mostina” (bridge house). I’m sure that you’ll love this village with its little houses and spectacular nature.

Boat Tour

This is also the port where we’ll start our boat tour. Surrounded by the green landscape, the wildlife, plants, waterlilies, we’ll go on a relaxing boat ride with fascinating views hoping you’ll realize why many people call our country WILD BEAUTY. The biggest attraction of the Skadar Lake, which is always recognizable for the diversity of flora and fauna, are birds. It represents one of the richest habitats for birdworms in Europe. Expect to see many birds such as grey and white heron, pygmy cormorant, various species of ducks, seagulls, various types of eagles and many more. If lucky you might see the mighty Dalmatian Pelican, a trademark of this lake which only lives in this area and in Ulcinj Salina.

Viewpoint Pavlova Strana (Pavlov's side)

After a boat ride, we move to, some might say, a five star panorama. The viewpoint, Pavlova Stra, is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in this National Park. You’ll see the Crnojević river shaped like a horseshoe band, and the Albanian mountains can be seen far off in the distance. We’ll take a short pause for photos and to simply enjoy the magnificent view.

Local Winery Mrkan

It’s up to you to decide where you’ll have your lunch break. Will it be by the river, enjoying the lake fish and the views, or in a local winery. Whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed. If you choose the off road option, in a short 10 minute ride from this viewpoint we arrive to a well preserved local winery with wine cellars that can be visited. Everything that you’ll find there is homemade, red and white wines, brandy, liqueurs, jams and many more things. Then a long-awaited break for wine and food testing with a chance of visiting the local vineyard in this wine famous region. Apart from wine tasting, you can enjoy small meals based on traditional food such as, Montenegrin smoked ham, cheese, olives, seasonal salad, or Priganice (traditional Montenegrin dish) and honey. You can have all of this and feel what it’s like to be in the home of a traditional Montenegrin house.

After this exciting and long trip, feel free to fall asleep as I take you and your full stomach back to Bar!
